Everything About SAP HANA

What is SAP HANA?

Within a single system, SAP HANA is a column-oriented in-memory database that runs progressive analytics alongside high-speed transactions. The SAP HANA Malaysia is very crucial because it is the key to allowing companies to query data in an instant, process massive amounts of data with near-zero suspension and become completely data-driven. SAP HANA is unique and significantly faster than other database management systems (DBMS) on the market today. This is due to the fact that it can store data in column-based tables in the main memory and merge online analytical processing (OLAP) and online transactional processing (OLTP) together. SAP HANA is a modern and mature solution that was launched in 2010 and is being used by tens of thousands of customers around the world. SAP HANA offers advanced search, analytics, and data integration capabilities for all types of data, be it structured or unstructured, other than just acting as a database server, storing and retrieving data requested by applications. SAP HANA helps companies build smart, insight-driven applications based on real-time data as it functions as an application server. The capabilities stated above are obtainable both on-premise and in the cloud. SAP HANA simplifies IT, helps businesses innovate, and knocks down barriers to digital transformation by making all types of data instantly available from a single system as it combines multiple data management capabilities.

What is an in-memory database(IMDB)?

Instead of storing data on traditional disk solid-state drives (SSD), an in-memory database (IMDB) is a type of database that stores data in a computer’s main memory. Disk-based storage databases are still disk-based databases although there has in an increase in in-memory capabilities. In order to leverage other storage mechanisms as necessary to balance performance and cost, SAP HANA was built from the ground up to work with data in memory first. As compared to retrieval from a disk or SSD, retrieval from memory is very much faster which results in a split-second response. For applications that require top speed and the ability to handle large spikes in traffic, in-memory databases are used. Examples of these applications are telecommunications networks and banking systems. Companies have started to use in-memory databases for a wider range of applications due to the advancements in multi-core processors and less expensive RAM in the last decade or so. Examples of applications used include real-time analytics and predictive modelling, customer experience management and logistics.
